Led solution architecture and business analysis for enterprise solutions, applying enterprise architecture principles to drive scalable growth and system integration. I led analysis, development and deployment of three complex systems for an international mining conglomerate, while maturing solution architecture and frontend development capabilities through the initiation of a Design System and the implementation of enterprise data integration solutions.

• Solution architecture. Collaborated with lead engineers to architect scalable solutions that meet complex business and compliance requirements.
• Enterprise strategy. Interpreted and analysed complex management information to shape architectural decisions and growth strategies.
• Product ownership. Served as liaison between business consultants and clients, translating business objectives into technical specifications.

Product Design Manager, Luno

2022 – 2023

Led strategic initiatives in enterprise systems and customer onboarding, combining product design expertise with a deep understanding of financial services operations.

• Customer verification and onboarding. Led the design and implementation of facial biometrics for customer onboarding, balancing user experience with KYC compliance requirements.
• Risk management. Designed the conceptual architecture for a Risk and Rules engine, enhancing customer verification workflows across multiple regions.
• Engineering excellence. Coached a team of system designers and engineers to deliver a proof of concept of StorybookJS to complement Luno’s Design System through design tokens, establishing visual testing standards.
• Innovation leadership. Led the local guild for Design Technologists, specialising in the impact of AI and Machine Learning on product development and customer onboarding operations.
• Process optimisation. Led the project team that improved the information architecture of the Product Design team’s tooling, specifically Figma and related workflows.
• Operational efficiency. Applied design skills and frontend expertise to build tools that support operational efficiency.
• Technical contribution. Took part in Luno’s Hacktober as an associate frontend developer using Angular and Bootstrap.
• People management. Recognised as one of Luno’s top-scoring managers in the 2022 Manager Effectiveness Survey.

UI Architecture Lead, Interfront

2015 – 2021

Led efforts to mature the frontend development, UI architecture and design operations discipline at Interfront. My team and I provided thought leadership to establish a foundation for implementing enterprise web application systems at scale, including a Design System. I coached and mentored junior engineers.

Senior Business Analyst responsible for specifications of enterprise application solutions for Customs and Border Control systems in Luxembourg and for the South African Revenue Service.

Design, Development & Architecture

1996 – 2011

My first project in the IT industry was in 1996, as Web Designer and HTML author. In 1998 I was part of the front-end design and development team when News24 first launched their online news service. I have since worked in IT across various business disciplines, performing a variety of roles.

Over the years my skills and interests have matured and changed, but whether I worked for Vodacom, MWeb, MTN or the CSIR, at the heart of every technical problem is a human being with kindness and creativity.
